About Us
The Training and Development Agency (TDA) has commissioned the Institute of Education, working with the Learning and Skills Network (LSN) to develop and implement a five-year workforce development strategy for EAL. Experts in the field have long argued for the need for policy and standards to change to reflect the reality that EAL learners will continue to be a presence in all our schools as demographic changes increase. This is now the opportunity to make that happen.
The strategy will encompass the continuum from QTS through Early and Continuing Professional Development (EPD & CPD); support access to specialist training; improve the supply of specialist practitioners and provide a framework of qualifications for trainees, existing teachers and support staff. Building on recent work of the National Association for Language in the Curriculum (NALDIC) which mapped the field through the recent audit of EAL training and development provision we will also develop CPD modules for the workforce.
